Susan McDonald
Susan is born and bred in Ireland and has a solid foundation in the horseworld coming up through the Irish Pony Club and hunting field and spending a considerable amount of time with the legendary Iris Kellet. She then spent time in England and the USA gaining experience but always knew that what she really wanted to do was use her formidable skills to produce young event horses.
Her ability to spot and produce horses that go on to compete to the highest level is second to none. She is very well known and respected within the Irish horse industry and she is trusted with some of the best young horses in Ireland to break and produce.
Susan breaks, produces and competes all the young horses for Connaught Sport Horses. She thinks it is vitally important that they get an all round education and can be seen out hunting the youngsters every weekend through out the winter and she is a familiar friendly face on both the Event and SJ circuit in Ireland.
Some of the top horses Susan has produced include -
-
Paulank Brockagh (Badminton Winner 2014)
-
Delux Z (Double clear Kentucky 4* 2016 and 2017)
-
Hasty Imp (Clear XC Badminton 2016)
-
So Far So Good (WEG 2015)
Her approach to starting young horses and getting the best from them is an art. When she has time she trains with Ian Feron and Joseph Murphy and her ambition is to do the Speed Derby at Hickstead!!
Luckily her gift has been shared with her eldest daughter Ciara who is following in her foot steps and enjoys producing and competing the youngsters too.
